{"id":18052,"date":"2019-08-19T17:38:35","date_gmt":"2019-08-19T21:38:35","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/fluvannareview.com\/?p=18052"},"modified":"2019-08-19T17:38:35","modified_gmt":"2019-08-19T21:38:35","slug":"harmful-algae-found-in-tufton-pond","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/fluvannareview.com\/2019\/08\/harmful-algae-found-in-tufton-pond\/","title":{"rendered":"Harmful algae found in Tufton Pond"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Lake Monticello\u2019s Tufton Pond is off-limits to pets and people after blue-green algae was spotted in the water, according to a press release issued today (Aug. 19) by the Lake Monticello Owners\u2019 Association.<\/p>\n<p>The algae can be harmful to people and animals.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe LMOA Maintenance Team\u00a0has been monitoring <em>some <\/em>signs of blue-green algae in Tufton Pond,\u201d according to the release. \u201cLMOA will be posting \u2018watch\u2019 signs at Tufton Pond to recommend no pets swimming in the pond and for everyone to avoid contact with the water.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>LMOA General Manager Steve Hurwitz said the pond and Lake Monticello are being monitored. No blue-green algae have been discovered at the lake.<\/p>\n<p>The algae, which can cause vomiting, skin rash and other health problem, have recently been found in Lake Anna, the Rivanna River and in Mint Springs in Crozet.\u00a0 Some 30-50% of blue green algae infestations can be harmful to pets and humans.<\/p>\n<p>Tufton Pond will be treated tomorrow, according to the release.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Lake Monticello\u2019s Tufton Pond is off-limits to pets and people after blue-green algae was spotted in the water, according to a press release issued today (Aug. 19) by the Lake Monticello Owners\u2019 Association.
